Hey! I loved your Mr Robot reviews, and your first Westworld review. You guys bring a cool combo of friendliness and deep geeky analysis to the shows. A couple thoughts to share with you:
After being reminded that Michael Chrichton wrote both Westworld and Jurassic Park, I realised the 2 novels are almost parallel. Both involve amusement parks that try to recreate a dead time period, with artificially created life. Both are founded by mad arrogant geniuses, that simultaneously want to entertain the public, make money, and play god by manipulating life. Both start out as harmless fun fantasies, but result in death and destruction, because the artificial beings cannot be controlled or contained.
The second observation is more minor: the scenes with the androids and milk, especially when the milk leaked out of the android’s body, TOTALLY reminded me of “Aliens”, when the android Bishop was killed by the queen, and spewed white “blood” out of his wounds. That scene really affected me when I first saw it, so anything involving white robotic fluid takes me back to that movie.
The third observation: OMG, the title sequence for Westworld is practically a clone of Game of Thrones. Very similar music — same composer, and similar arpeggiated measures. And both involve CG scenes of mechanically built creatures or worlds.
Keep up the good work, yo!
Hey Jasper, you mirror our exact thoughts as well! I’m really glad you are digging our casts. Sorry for the delay, we are trying to update everything at once and it seems it got away from us 🙂
