The imagery of the “target cards” strongly reminds me of the Iraq War “deck of targets” playing cards, their portrait oriented with a target priority on them and since when is red ever a color associated with “save me”?
I can’t tell what it says under “Dr. Lowe, Bernard” on the card in the DVR frame I paused, the subtext after his name is “priority status” above “HIGH” and the barcode and info in the right side appear to be employee ID information; but that could be a red herring.
IF they know at this point he is a host, they also know he is a host who was programming other hosts that subsequently ‘went rogue’ for an extended period of time before the new narrative and he is in a military camp with no possible chance of lone escape; therefore a passive confinement situation with the possibility of soft interrogation by allowing him to continue believing he’s undiscovered in the hopes that the Delos team will be able to learn what happened from him. As he’s lead in they’ve demonstrated that they do not value the current hosts based on the firing squad he passes (RIP Steven Ogg’s character, may he live on in flashback!) while simultaneously presenting the threat to him passively.
Also, Delores very early in the episode acknowledges that she is also Wyatt, so anything we thought we knew about Delores needs to be tossed out the window.
Love the show, you’re both awesome!
P.S. Arnold rebelled against Ford and his vision in early timeline arc of season 1, nearly ending the park before it opened. Did Ford spend the intervening time between that event and the opening of WestWorld recreating Arnold from scratch, or tinkering with Arnold’s stored consciousness to make him the subservient Bernard we’ve been shown? If it pans out maybe how this is how Ed Harris becomes Yul Brenner from the movie. Cheers!
Hey there! Thanks for being a loyal Klatcher! About the Bernard card… that’s exactly what I was trying to figure out. If the card says something about him being a high priority host. And if they are just playing along with him.
Not sure I’m digging Delores right now but it’s still too early to come to that conclusion.
We will for sure read your comments on next weeks podcast! Thanks again for your support.
