OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS:
CHARACTERS:
- Professor Hamish Bax – what happened to him? (Carter)
- Underworld – Hades & Persephone
- Victoria (Zelda’s daughter)
- Poppy
- James (Julia’s boyfriend) (Brian C.)
- Mayakovsky (Brian C. – did he ever reverse his brain swap with his future self with dementia? Does the timeline break if he doesn’t?)
- Mayakovsky’s daughter (Carter)
- Reynard (Brian C. – is he still around delivering pizzas? Is he frozen in his apartment? He always seemed more of an Uber driver to me!)
- The McCallistairs
- The Fairies
- The Visigoths
BRIAN C:
- Who could be the mother of Fogg 17’s child? Is it Marina 17? Marina 23 jokes about it when they visit Fogg 23. (I think it was in S03E11 “Twenty-three”)
- Christopher Plover is an immortal child molester. Someone should take care of that.
- What did the Candy Witch (S02E01) do with Q’s blood? Ember even mentions it in the opening dialogue of Season 3 recapping the previous season.
CARTER:
- Penny being the Dean
- The hedge witch plotline. And everything they did with Kady seemed like an afterthought and they never gave her the shine she deserved
- Lipson popping up everywhere kind of bothered me because I don’t remember where she went or where she came from or why she’s always there
- And i cant remember if in season 1 or 2 Alice was just a king or a high king, but when ember summoned Elliott, Margo, Fen, and Josh, i thought she should’ve been summoned. It didn’t bother me that much because she didn’t really go to Fillory
CHARACTER ARCS:
GAMBLE: We spent so much time with all of the writers together, then between the two of us we were passing pages back and forth. First and foremost, we wanted to make sure that our eyes were on each of our series regulars. We asked ourselves repeatedly, “Where was Alice in episode 1? Where was she in episode 6 of season 1?” Somewhere around there, she has a little speech about how she’s afraid to even peer at her own potential because she’s afraid that she’ll be alone for the rest of her life. Then, we very much had where she started in mind when we arced her toward a series finale where she finds herself a master magician and understanding the truth of where all of her potential comes from. We had her a bit handicapped for the big piece of magic she has to do. That’s what proves she has been able to step into a place where she’s confident and she is willing to go there, and she’s not holding anything back anymore. We did a version of that for each of [the characters].
MCNAMARA: I’ll let you in the vault. We have a document that may someday be available on eBay that is the arc of season 6.
ALICE: “Oh, Alice Quinn, I wish you a long, happy, stress-free life. I’m gonna miss playing you, Alice. I think you are one of the strongest, most intelligent women I’ve ever come across, and it’s been an honor to play you. I hope you find peace and happiness and maybe, I don’t know, learn to meditate, go on a retreat, get some massages. I don’t know, just generally pull the stick out of your ass. I will forever miss you.”
ELIOT: “Thank you, Eliot, for non-stop unexpected adventure, complexity and depth. Grateful he allowed me to paint with a wide variety of colors. For always having something witty to say, and for finally being able to confront your demons and move through the scariest parts of your shadow.”
PENNY: “Goodbye Penny 23 and Penny 40. My message to you is the same – thank you for letting me play in your world. 23 – I hope you enjoy being a dad. 40 – I hope you have some fun at Benedict’s brunch. Your growth and ability to open up to people.
JOSH: “I will miss your innate ability to always find the good in any situation. I will miss your cooking; no one can deny you were a fantastic chef. I will mostly miss the way you brought a smile to a group of friends who needed it.”
KADY: “Believing in this crazy character, all her twists and turns. She found her strength throughout this process and because of it, I found mine.”
FEN: “Fen was born to be a side character and ended up a hero.”
FAVORITE EPISODES:
- 3.5 – A Life in the Day (Quentin and Eliot travel in time to Fillory’s past to attempt a seemingly impossible puzzle which will reveal the 3rd key. They spend a lifetime trying to solve it and raising a family together. After Eliot dies, Q finally solves it but gives the key to a young Jane Chatwin to fight the beast. Receiving the message, Margo is able to get the key from an adult Jane (living in the Clock Barrens) and returns just before Q and Eliot are about to travel back; erasing the timeline where they lived together (though they retain their memories of it).
- 3.4 – Be the Penny (Unable to interact with the physical world, a disembodied Penny watches his friends’ reaction to his supposed death. With the help of Hyman, he learns to control physical objects. Kady is faced with the choice of what to do with Penny’s body but unable to decide, Penny intervenes and incinerates his body. Brakebills’ board of directors closes the school. Under the influence of the key to Hidden Truths, Eliot sees Penny’s astral self.)
- 3.7 – Six Short Stories About Magic (Penny travels to the Underworld to find Benedict and the key. He encounters Sylvia, working for the library in her afterlife; sees Cassandra, who can see the future and writes everyone’s stories. Quentin, Kady, Harriet, and Poppy travel to the underworld library with the help of traveler Victoria, who makes a bridge to the Mirror World. Victoria and Harriet seemingly die when Gavin breaks the bridge. It is revealed that the McAllisters are using faerie powder to give them faerie magic.)
- 1.7 – The Mayakovsky Circumstance (In the form of geese, Quentin and his peers fly to Brakebills South in Antarctica to study with Professor Mayakovsky, who puts them through several challenges).
- 4.10 – All that Hard Glossy Armor (Margo is in the desert. She licks the lizard’s oil which makes her see hallucinations of her subconscious manifested as Eliot (her id), Josh (her guilt), Fen (her lost innocence), Kady (her inadequacy) and Dean Fogg (wisdom). They all sing for Margo as she searches for the Foremost and a weapon that could save Eliot. She finds out that the desert is filled with protective women spirits who help other women when they have hard times and the tribe is living in a lie told by the Foremost and his wife. Margo eventually takes the weapon from the Foremost and releases all the spirits the wife had entrapped. Margo leaves the camp, carrying the weapons she was seeking, as she sings with her hallucinated friends. Meanwhile, the Monster is looking for a body for his sister. Alice gives Julia the Binder. Zelda finally believes she is being lied to. Quentin, Julia and Penny try to find Enyalius, only for the Monster to appear and kill him, taking the last stone.)

KLATCHERS COMMENTS:
PERCY’S OWNER – (Last Episodes)
E11: The Balls – The songs – I have read that the show runners wanted to use all Prince songs and were unable to secure the rights. I’m not familiar enough with Prince’s catalog to know what they would have chosen, but I suspect the disconnect on the songs for the story was because they couldn’t get what they truly wanted to use.
MARLOES R. – (Lance)
So after re-watching this last season I have to ask – wouldn’t the magicians have known that Lance couldn’t come back from the Underworld since he wasn’t there. Our magicians met him as an evil ghost in the closed building at Brakebills when they where looking for the keys. In Season 1, we learned that souls with traumatic events get stuck (the kids @ Chatwin house) and don’t go to the Underworld. Did I miss them telling the Dark King why this was a bad plan or did the writers just miss this plot hole?
BRANDON – (Thank you)
Hey guys, I just wanted to thank you both for the shout-out on the Magicians series finale episode (Corona Brandino)! I also just wanted to explain further what I meant by you guys pulling me back into The Magicians. I stopped watching around the middle of Season 2. I had caught up with the show at that point and never watched it live. But I found your podcast at the end of GoT and loved it. When I found out you also covered The Magicians, I decided to give it a listen. It was your coverage that made me go back and finish season 2 before season 3 rolled around. I’ve watched every episode live since, and waited patiently for every podcast episode. You guys seriously wrong, I’m proud to be a Klatcher, and I love the community you guys have built. I can’t imagine the work you guys put into all that you do, but I appreciate every bit of it. I’ll always credit you guys with reuniting me with such an amazing show.
